Divine Goddess Katyayini is the sixth manifestation of Durga and one of the prominent deities among Navdurga. She is grandly Worshiped on the sixth day of Navratri pooja. Her appearance is immensely majestic and divine. She is represented with four-arms. Her upper left hand holds sword and lower left hand represents lotus-flower. Her upper right hand is in Abhaymudra, and lower right hand is in Barmudra. Lion is her procession. Her appearance is imagined with pink Saree wearing white rosary on her neck. According to Hindu Mythology, it is believed that long time ago there was a renowned sage called 'Maharashi Kat'. Rishi Katya was son of Maharshi Kat, and under clan of Katya a prominent rishi was born with name 'Katyayan'. Rishi Katyayan was a great devotee of Devi Bhagwati (Durga) and performed eras of hard penance to delight her. When Goddess Bhagwati was pleased by his devotion, he prayed Goddess to take birth as his daughter. Goddess Bhagwati accepted and accomplished his wish. At home of Rishi Katyayan, Devi Bhagwati was born as his daughter. After some eras, when tyranny of demon Mahisasur crossed the limitation, all deities including Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh requested Devi Durga to end the torment of Mahishashur. Devi Katyayani (manifestation of Durga) took this horn on her shoulder and destroyed devils. Being the daughter of her great devotee Rishi Katya, she became prominent with name 'Katyayini'.

Worship Maa Skandamata on the fifth day of Navaratri


The 5th day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Skandamata, the 5th manifestation of Goddess Durga and the mother of Lord Kartikeya, who was chosen by the devatas as their commander in chief in the war against the demons. The image of Devi Skandamata portrays Her holding Lord Skanda in his infant form and a lotus in her right hand. She has four arms, three eyes and a bright complexion. She is also called as Padamasani since She is often depicted seated on a lotus flower in a her idol. She is also worshiped in the form of Parvati, Maheshwari or Mata Gauri. The left arm of the goddess is in a pose to grant boons with grace to her devotees.

The legend says that Tarkasur, a great demon, once pleased Lord Brahma with his great devotion and extremely tough penance. He asked Lord Brahma to shower His blessings and make him immortal. Lord Brahma denied him this blessing, saying none can escape death. Tarkasur acted smart and asked for the death by the son of Lord Shiva, since he thought Lord Shiva would never get married. Tarkasur started tormenting the people on the earth. Fearing his strength would cause destructions, the devatas requested Lord Shiva to get married. He agreed and married Goddess Parvati. Their child, Lord Kartikeya/ Skand Kumar, demolished Tarkasur. Devi Skandmata is a symbol of the mother-son relationship.

Goddess Kushmanda: Fourth day of Navaratri Festival

Kushmanda Devi is worshipped on the 4th day of Navratri festival (nine nights of Nava Durga) and she is the fourth manifestation of Goddess Durga. Her name signifies her importance, “Ku” (little), “ushma” (energy or warmth) and “anda” (cosmic egg); basically it means with her divine smile she has created the whole universe in the form of a cosmic egg. Goddess Kushmanda is also called as Smaanda Devi, Adi Shakti and Ashtabhuja Devi.



Appearance and Power of Maa Kushmanda:
The Goddess, with eight hands (hence the name Ashta bhuja) holding a discus, an arrow, a bow, a sword, a mace, a lotus and a jar of honey, riding on a lion (that depicts Dharma) and shining like a glowing Sun gives light in all directions. Her eighth hand holds a rosary that blesses her devotees with Ashta Siddhis (eight-types of wisdom’s) and Navasiddhis (eight-types of wealth). It is believed that she improves the health and grants wealth and strength to her followers.And so, she is worshipped on fourth day of Navaratri where devotees keep their mind in spiritual practice worshipping her to improve one’s health and strength, gives true knowledge, destroys negative ego’s/habits and bowing to her with forgiveness. Legend behind Goddess Kushmanda:
                  Lord Vishnu with the help of Devi Kushmanda was able to create the whole universe. She with her little and divine smile created the universe in the form of an egg when there was no existence of any creation and in every direction there was only darkness. Her divine smile blossomed to light up the entire universe in all directions like rays of the sun. As she created the universe in the form of an egg or anda, she is known as Adi Shakti. There is a saying that she gives direction to Sun God, Surya as she gives brightness and illumination by her luminosity and hence she resides in the core of Surya. Her body glows with a golden color complexion and a shining face. She removes all sufferings and sorrows from your life and grants strength and prosperity.
Worship Goddess Kushmanda:
                     She is worshipped in the form of a Kaalash and flowers are offered. White pumpkin is considered as sacred offering to Kushmanda Devi and her divine abode resides in Bhimaparvat. Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma are also worshipped after the Devi puja.

Navratri 2017 Day 3: Worship Maa Chandraghanta, the Third Form of Goddess Durga


After Maa Shailaputri and Maa Brahmacharini, Goddess Chandraghanta will be worshipped on the third day of Navratri falling on September 23, 2017. The ten-day long festival of Sharad Navaratri began on September 21 and is celebrated with joy and fervour across the country. Navratri is the celebration of nine forms of Goddess Durga, the ultimate feminine power. Maa Chandraghanta is the married form of Maa Parvati after becoming Lord Shiva’s consort. In this form, Devi Parvati is peaceful and ensures the well-being of her devotees. Nevertheless, she is ready for the war with all her weapons. 
The name of Goddess Chandra Ghanta means “one who has a half-moon shaped like a bell”. It is believed her “third eye is always opened and she always ready for war against demons”. This manifestation of Goddess Durga is also known as Chandrakhanda, Chandika or Rannchandi. It is believed that the Shukra (Planet Venus) is governed by Goddess Chandraghanta. The devotees worshipping this avatar of Maa Durga will help them get rid of any bad effects due to Shukra.


The Iconography of Devi Chandraghanta is described in religious texts as the deity mounting a tigress. She wears the semi-circular moon (Chandra) on her forehead. The half-moon on her forehead looks like the bell (Ghanta) and hence, Her name. Chandraghanta is depicted with ten hands carrying Trishul (trident), Gada, sword and kamandal (water pot) in her four left hands while keeping the fifth left hand in Varadamudra. She carries a lotus flower, arrow, Dhanush and Japa Mala (rosary) in her four right hands and keeps the fifth right hand in Abhaya Mudra.
She looks after the peace and growth of her followers. It is believed that the sound of the moon-bell on her forehead drives all types of evil spirits away from devotees. The followers must offer fresh Jasmine flowers to Maa Chandraghanta while chanting the holy mantra, ॐ देवी चन्द्रघण्टायै नमः॥ Om Devi Chandraghantayai Namah. According to the Hindu legends, devotees praying to Devi Chandraghanta are blessed with grace, bravery and courage. नवरात्रि 2017: आज है दूसरा नवरात्र मां ब्रह्मचारिणी का दिन, जानिए पूजा और व्रत विधि से कर सकते हैं उनको प्रसन्न


ब्रह्मचारिणी” माँ दुर्गा का दूसरा रूप हैं। इनकी उपासना नवरात्रि के दूसरे दिन की जाती है। ब्रह्म का अर्थ है तपस्या और चारिणी यानी आचरण करने वाली अर्थात तप का आचरण करने वाली मां ब्रह्मचारिणी। यह देवी शांत और निमग्न होकर तप में लीन हैं। मुख पर कठोर तपस्या के कारण अद्भुत तेज और कांति का ऐसा अनूठा संगम है जो तीनों लोको को उजागर कर रहा है। देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी के दाहिने हाथ में अक्ष माला है और बायें हाथ में कमण्डल होता है। देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी साक्षात ब्रह्म का स्वरूप हैं अर्थात तपस्या का मूर्तिमान रूप हैं। इस देवी के कई अन्य नाम हैं जैसे तपश्चारिणी, अपर्णा और उमा। इस दिन साधक का मन ‘स्वाधिष्ठान ’चक्र में स्थित होता है। इस चक्र में अवस्थित साधक मां ब्रह्मचारिणी जी की कृपा और भक्ति को प्राप्त करता है।
देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी, माँ पार्वती के जीवन काल का वो समय था जब वे भगवान शिव को अपने पति के रूप में पाने के लिए कठोर तपस्या कर रही थी। तपस्या के प्रथम चरण में उन्होंने केवल फलों का सेवन किया फिर बेल पत्र और अंत में निराहार रहकर कई वर्षो तक तप कर भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न किया। देवी दुर्गा का यह दूसरा रूप भक्तों एवं सिद्धों को अमोघ फल देने वाला है। देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी की उपासना से तप, त्याग, वैराग्य, सदाचार, संयम की वृद्धि होती है। माँ ब्रह्मचारिणी की कृपा से मनुष्य को सर्वत्र सिद्धि और विजय की प्राप्ति होती है, तथा जीवन की अनेक समस्याओं एवं परेशानियों का नाश होता है।भगवती को नवरात्र के दूसरे दिन चीनी का भोग लगाना चाहिए और ब्राह्मण को दान में भी चीनी ही देनी चाहिए। मान्यता है कि ऐसा करने से मनुष्य दीर्घायु होता है। इनकी उपासना करने से मनुष्य में तप, त्याग, सदाचार आदि की वृद्धि होती है।
